Day in the Life Session

We all take family photos, on a whim, some of us everyday – hundreds a year, maybe a month! All photos are treasures to share with family, friends, and your future self. The difference, when booking a family session, is tremendous. You are giving yourself and your family the gift of dedicated time together, of all being in the frame, and of capturing your true candid essence.

The Process

What’s included

Day in the Life Session

Day in the Life sessions are my absolute favorite way to capture a family. This true documentary-style session is aimed at freezing the in-between moments. We will document the good, the bad, the real. When you look back on these photos in a decade, or two, you’ll visit your family as it was in its perfect imperfectness.

These sessions are completely customizable, varying in length from 2-8 hours. The location is also your choice – though I do love to start at home, if not stay there the entire time!

Retouched photos will be delivered to you within 3 weeks. You will receive a clean, simple, and easy to navigate online gallery of 150-400+ images, depending on the length of your session. From here you can download all of the images and place an order for prints and other products if you wish.

FAQ {Day in the Life}

Can we choose the location for our session?

Typically these sessions are done at home and a trip outside to the yard or on a walk is often part of the fun. If you have something else in mind I’m all ears.

How long are the sessions?

Day in the Life sessions can last anywhere from 2-8 hours. This will be predetermined when booking the date; however if you’d like to add more time on the spot, that is ok with me if my schedule will allow it that day.

Will there by any posed photos?

Usually I sneak a few in, just in case they are wanted for a holiday card or print. Please let me know if this is something you’d definitely like to include in the day.

What if someone needs a break, nap, etc?

I am here to document the day as it unfolds in its natural way, all inclusive of naps, breaks, meltdowns. messes, and more!

How can we prepare for our session?

The most important prep work you can do is to relax and practice light-hearted mindfulness with your family.

How can we prepare our young children for the session?

As a mother of 3 young ones myself, I understand the unpredictable nature of kids. Let them know what will be happening (maybe a couple of times) and that it will be fun special time all together. If parents are happy, kids are happy, and vice-versa. Enjoy yourself and leave the work to me (though I can hardly call it work)!

Can extended family members join our session?

Yes! Since this is a free-style session, I will capture whatever and whomever are around. However, if you would like to include multiple grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or other extended family members in posed group photos, you will want to check out the Extended Family Session tab for more information.

What is your retouching style?

All final delivered images will be lightly retouched for exposure, contrast and color. Detailed requests can be happily fulfilled for an additional fee.

What’s the deal with images rights?

The Photographer retains the rights to use all images taken at a session for her portfolio, including but not limited to, social media, website, and portfolio publications. The subjects (you, the family) retain the rights to use the images for personal use (also known as Private Display), and not for any type of public display or resale. If you would like to discuss or place restrictions on usage, please reach out to me to discuss options.
