Extended Family Session

We all take family photos, on a whim, some of us everyday – hundreds a year, maybe a month! All photos are treasures to share with family, friends, and your future self. The difference, when booking a family session, is tremendous. You are giving yourself and your family the gift of dedicated time together, of all being in the frame, and of capturing your true candid essence.

FAQ {Extended Family}

Can we choose the location for our family session?

Yes, when you book your session you will have the option to choose between a few outdoor locations. If you have another meaningful location in mind, don't hesitate to ask me about it! Chances are it can be accommodated.

How can we prepare for our extended family session?

With large groups, I will request a shot list. This is a list of all the photos that you, or anyone else in your family, would like taken. For example, the entire family, grandparents with grandkids, individual family 1, individual family 2, all the cousins, etc. If any folks with mobility issues will be in attendance, I will need to know so I can prepare easy-to-reach locations for the photos.

What should we bring to the session?

Preferably just yourselves. Please leave personal belongings (including phones) in your car, or another safe location. We will be walking around a bit and it’s difficult to keep things like bags, extra sweaters, and phones out of the photos. I include phones because they tend to show up in pockets as strange rectangles, lol.

How can we prepare our young children for the session?

As a mother of 3 young ones myself, I understand the unpredictable nature of kids. Let them know what will be happening (maybe a couple of times) and that it will be fun special time all together. If parents are happy, kids are happy, and vice-versa. I’ll let you know if I need help wrangling them - you just enjoy yourself!

What should we wear?

It is important to decide this in advance, to share with your group, and to leave time in case anyone wants to purchase something. Light to mid-range colors photograph well together. You may want to avoid busy patterns on everyone - but I certainly don’t want to inhibit your family style! Do avoid words and large logos. Lastly, a little family color story goes a long way with larger groups!

Can we bring our dog?

Pets are family! You’re welcome to bring your dog as long as they are permitted at the chosen site. It is your responsibility to research park policies regarding pets. Please let me know ahead of time. I will do my best to include them in the photos and please do bring some treats for me to dangle. It’s worth considering whether or not you will want any photos without the dog and if that will be possible at the location.

What if the weather is bad on the day of our scheduled session?

In the event of inclement weather, I may reschedule the session for a different day or offer an indoor location alternative.

What’s the deal with images rights?

The Photographer retains the rights to use all images taken at a session for her portfolio, including but not limited to, social media, website, and portfolio publications. The subjects (you, the family) retain the rights to use the images for personal use (also known as Private Display), and not for any type of public display or resale. If you would like to discuss or place restrictions on usage, please reach out to me to discuss options.

What is your retouching style?

All final delivered images will be lightly retouched for exposure, contrast and color. Detailed requests can be happily fulfilled for an additional fee.
